Thanks a lot for the link, Nicholas.

My trouble with this proposal is that I don't understand how this meaningfully 
improves things. The motivation described in that comment you linked to seems 
to be:

# Continue to support client-side configuration of HA addresses.
# Support IP failover.
# Support putting this configuration in some central service like ZK or DNS.
# Start referring to "nameservices" as "volumes" in the configs.

The current configuration system definitely supports #1, and it's not obvious 
to me that the current configuration system can't support #2 and #3. As for #4, 
since there's currently a 1-to-1 mapping between volume and nameservice, it 
seems like the current system is sufficient there as well.

Am I perhaps misunderstanding the motivation for the change?
