Thanks Suresh! I updated the test to address both points.

bq. Have you tested this with multiple storage directories on the datanode?
Yes {{MiniDFSCluster}} creates two storage directories per DN so this is 
covered in unit tests.

The test case won't pass in the current branch because of an unrelated break 
likely caused by merge from trunk.
