Dear All,
I want to let you know that this year the Cataloging Committee hosted 5
Cataloging Forums. The topics ranged from very specific MARC fields to new
Library of Congress vocabularies, such LCDGT and LCGFT. Additionally, there
were sessions related to rare book cataloging and to understanding specific
Hebrew grammar rules and how they relate to Romanization (although this session
might have been a wee bit over the top). The sessions were :

  1. Introduction to Hebrew Paleography - session led by Judith
Olszowy-Schlager (July 28, 2022). This session was a carry from the previous
year.
  2. LCDGT Headings - session led by Veronica Ranieri and Haim Gottschalk
(November 11, 2022)
  3. MARC 510 Notes Field - session led by Haim Gottschalk (February 27, 2023)
  4. Understanding the Rules of Sheva and Kamats - session led by Ben
Outhwaite (March 17)
  5. Provenance in Rare Book Cataloging (MARC 561) - session led by Louis
Meiselman (May 18, 2023)
Altogether, the Cataloging Committee hosted 8 Cataloging Forums in two years.
Additionally, many individuals began viewing the recordings. Thank you.
Past Forums were:

  1. The LC classifications of BM vs. KBM (November 23, 2021)
  2. Introduction to Cataloging Hebrew Manuscripts (March 3, 2022)
  3. Form Heading and Genre Terms (May 24, 2022)
I hope that these forums were useful and helpful. I am looking forward to
developing several more for this coming year.
All my best,
Haim
