Hi, Caroline, thank you for your question. There have been numerous batch loads from Israeli libraries that have miscoded 040|b’s. The below record is one of them. This is determined based on the fact that the descriptive fields (300 and 5xx’s) are in Hebrew only (along with the 130, the miscoded 751<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bd751.html__;!!KGKeukY!1zlPgQjxw_9cFuvx_JBzHveN3SfILbu_9lV7dwh00BH2ev70tVR-d7mX1hdBC4wLXe0up3WOmE5JOp55jSSC4w$ >, and the ELvl<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/fixedfield/elvl.html__;!!KGKeukY!1zlPgQjxw_9cFuvx_JBzHveN3SfILbu_9lV7dwh00BH2ev70tVR-d7mX1hdBC4wLXe0up3WOmE5JOp6xc_P1PQ$ > coded M). (The 2xx’s are in roman script because these are transcription fields and the data appears in roman script in the piece.)
Please use OCLC’s “Report error” functionality (from the Action drop-down menu) to inform OCLC that the 040 code needs to be corrected. (I have brought this matter to OCLC’s attention a number of times before and have reported numerous such record errors. I’m not sure what the issue is…) There are a number of actual English language records for this work (though they seem to need improvement…) Thanks again and gemar ḥatimah ṭovah, Jasmin From: Heb-naco <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Miller, Caroline via Heb-naco Sent: Thursday, October 10, 2024 1:59 PM To: Hebrew Name Authority Funnel <[email protected]> Subject: [Heb-NACO] NLI English language records All, Are any of you adding your holdings to NLI English language records? I of course derive their Hebrew language records all the time but was never sure what to do about their English language records. In this case I’m looking at OCLC #1256619991. There is only one 5xx given in English. The rest are in Hebrew, so I’m not even sure it should be coded as an English language record. Gemar Hatimah Tovah, Caroline Caroline R.
