Did you run it from the shell, or did you double click on the install
icon in the file manager? If the latter I would try running it from the
shell so as to see anything that might be printed during the install.

Tried again, this time from the shell- it wrote in the console the glibc version (2.2.5), then gave me the graphical wizard.
After entering the personal data, choosing where to install to (a directory under my user home), and installation type (custom, were I added the palm support), the installer disappears, after writing to the shell again the glibc version.

Here is what the shell looked like when I finished:

[sforbes@linux install]$ setup
glibc version: 2.2.5
glibc version: 2.2.5
[sforbes@linux install]$

Is there a log somewhere with more info? Is my system missing something?
