LFN for mkfat.py would definitely make some people happy, but we can't really tell you to work on it to increase your GSoC chances as that would border with abusive behaviour from our side. We can't promise anything back in reward (other than integrating the change if the change looks good) and so we leave it to your own discretion and judgement.
