You are probably right in this point, going for the full-fledged HelenOS user land as a base for Genode has some implications which might make it look more like a virtualization approach than a native Genode platform.

On the other hand, the possible range for the base is still slightly wider than just the SPARTAN kernel alone. I can imagine that the base would be SPARTAN + HelenOS Naming Service + async framework.
Right, and whatever the base will be, I think running Genode* and HelenOS 
userland side-by-side would be possible, with some effort, much the same way it 
is possible to run multiple instances of the same userland (Linux containers, 
Solaris Zones, BSD jails, etc..)
