Minutes of the HelenOS hangout 2021-11-11
=========================================

Attendees
---------
  * JS - Jiri Svoboda
  * VK - Vit Kabele

Scribe: JS

Round Table
-----------

VK - Linux syscall emulation
 * Written as part of his master's thesis
 * It works, though he doesn't consider it 'production quality
 * Can run simple statically-linked binary (e.g. busybox)
 * Dynamically-linked executables not supported
 * https://git.kabele.me/vitkabele/helenos
 * Would like to eventually finish this and merge upstream, but not sure
when it will happen

JS
 * Preparing for 0.11.2 release
 * Unit test are all OK
 * During testing, ran into kernel test hangs on ia64/ski, sparc64/ultra and
sparc64/niagara; these can be reproduced with old releases, so it's not new
defects (in terms of code), so won't be considered stoppers for release
 * Still need to triage tickets, improve release notes with screenshots and
prepare What's new screencast
 * Still don't have the credentials for uploading to helenos.org

Free discussion
---------------
  * VK: Current activity level? Releases? JS: See github. Preparing for
second release this year.
  * VK: Project direction? Embedded use? JS: While we don't preclude server
and embedded, nobody is actively working in that area currently. I am
working mostly on desktop. [1]

Editor's notes:
1. HelenOS new, unique TUI capability makes it pretty pleasant to use with
servers and embedded systems that only have a serial console
