Something similar with community 3.1.1:

Illegal character somewhere in variable "$(ind^Xi\206^H)" or nested expansion
Illegal character somewhere in variable (ind^Xi\206^H^X" or nested expansion
Illegal character somewhere in variable (ind^Xi\206^H^X" or nested expansion
Illegal character somewhere in variable (ind^Xi\206^H^X" or nested expansion

Of course, everything was working smoothly 5 minutes before and 5
minutes after, with no change (binaries, configuration files)
inbeetwen so this is a bug.

This is annoying for something like Cfengine, which runs as root
and controls the destiny of a whole datacenter...
