That is a good remark. I do not use the packages provided by cfengine, because 
they install the binaries in /usr/local that also can be NFS mounted 
filesystem. So everything goes wrong. The deb and rpm rules do not allow 
installation in /usr/local.  So i wonder how you create for example the debian 
packages? My opinion is if 'cfengine.com' prepares packages for the different 
Unix/Linux OSes tthen they must follow the guidelines ;-).

What my approach is to fetch the cfengine source package from debian for 
example. These tries to be FHS compatible and then use the debian directory 
from this source package to build a newer version of cfengine.
