Changing the default may make sense for 'this' OS today but that could change with the next OS tomorrow. Mark made the best decision he could back in the dark ages of computing and for some very good reasons. I think it stands as a valid default that can be changed by the sysadmin as needed. To change it for computing in 2011 might mean that it is imperfect in 2015. Let's just see this for what it is: we recycle old ideas into new (just like the fashion industry!) so global decisions made today must be carefully considered. I think cfengine is standing up fairly well with the changes we've seen in the last decade.
