The main bottleneck for GLPK MIP solver is GLPK LP solver, which is still slow compared to CLP, for instance.
This is such a pity, since GLPK is well documented and has a great API. Since CLP is free and open source, it would be really nice if GLPK incorporate some of CLP ideas to speed up things.
