It's not an ill-administered system! SuSE 6.2 is a reasonably new
release, and I've been applying all their relevant upgrades and
patches. The SuSE 6.2 release has egcs-2.91.66, and it looks like
the crash is in libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2. (Which does sound like
an odd hybrid, but then I haven't been using c++ or its libraries
much.)

Still, obviously there is some problem with library compatibility,
or with the integration of gcc and egcs and their respective library
versions. If there is no easy fix, maybe I can track the problem
down over the upcoming Thankgiving break.

Regards,
