Aha...I feel moderately silly.  It compiled fine with guile 1.3.4.  For
some reason my brain hadn't connected the fact that 1.3.4 was greater than
1.3-6.  Gods only know why not...

But now another question: How do you contribute music into mutopia or into
free music on the 'net?  In this case it is original compositions, so I
don't have to worry about copyright problems.
