Is sure is.  Just after preprocessing, it almost doubles:

      paper output to coriolan.tex...
      [/home/fred/usr/src/lilypond/ps/lily.ps]
      Element count 69718
      .[0][[/home/fred/usr/src/lilypond/cmtfm/cmr8.tfm]1]

Which means that your Brahms movement is about twice the size of my
Coriolan (quite something!), which seems to be reflected by the memory
footprint.
