thing for xgps. 

so you mean that i can ignore the message:
"port not provided in request"?

just as an information which may be of some use for you:
some time ago i compiled the kernel 2.4.0-test1 and tried it
on my linux pc (under red hat 6.2). i compiled gnustep
and i got the message:
"Unable to bind address to TCP socket"
and a core dump.
