Well GSTest doesn't have a main window initially, you need to open it
from
the menu.
If the menu and/or other items aren't working, this might be a problem
with communication with some of the GNUstep servers, which causes the
app to hang until the communication is resolved - do you get any errors
or other messages in the terminal where you started the app?

Same problem. Check to see if the programs 'gdomap' and 'gdnc' are
running. gdomap should run as root. It's also possible, since you've
installed a more recent version of GNUstep, and old version of gdomap
and/or gdnc is still running, which isn't compatible with the new
version of GNUstep.
