Flag to turn off "lowering visibility" warning?

Using gcc 4.1.1 I'm getting warnings of the ilk

        lowering visibility of '...' to match its type

I've omitted the symbol for brevity. (It so happens it's a few screens
long.) Is there a flag to suppress this warning?
