Hi,
I tried to log into an other user
and MATE desktop works.

So what does that mean?

thanks

Gottfried

That means, something is wrong with your user configuration (~/.config,
~/.cache, et al. directories). You can try invoking, MATE desktop's process
(mate-session, maybe?) through startx, capture the log to some file. That may
have some hints. Alternatively, move data (not configuration) to the new user,
and reconfigure it to your liking.
