Hi Gottfried,

I think some of your installed packages are out of date. What's the last time
you ran

     guix package --upgrade?

I did that 3 days ago.

It may be better to switch to Guix Home, which does that automatically to you.

I have not yet dealt with "Guix Home" because its too difficult for me to create it and to keep it up to date (and somebody said that, if I have Guix Home installed, I can never remove it.)

As for Guix shell, it should be possible to use it more than once a day. It
should also not build every time, but I've seen bugs in that caching algorithm.
Are you sure it's not downloading?
What do you mean with: "Are you not sure its´s not downloading?"

thanks

Gottfried

Thanks for using GNU Guix!

Kind regards
Felix

I can´t update one profile with musescore-3.6.2,
it can´t build musescore-3.6.2.
It stops at about 31 % of the build phase.
In my little understanding I guess that the old version of Musescore needs
other old versions of packages.

The current version of musescore in Guix is 4.6.5. Do you really need an
older one? If yes, then the safest approach would be to use the
time-machine together with "guix shell musescore". Trying to mix an old
musescore recipe with newer packages from Guix (from your description it
sounds like what you are trying to do) will create trouble.

thanks

1.
What I understood is,
if someone is using guix shell then he can use it only once,
and if I need it every day,
it would build musescore every day, which needs time.

Building musescore 3.6.2 needed always 1,3 hours,
but may be in guix shell it goes quicker.

2.
What possibilities do we have to use guix shell,
but avoid the building it every day anew?

3.
I have never used time-machine
and would have to learn the commands.

4.
I have got musescore 3.6.2 in a separate profile
and used it successfully from 2022 onwards 2,5 years approx.
But starting in 2024 it was not possible anymore to build it always.
since then it builds less and less and now not anymore.
I was very pleased with the old version, it worked better then the newer
versions of musescore 4.0 until 4.4 approx. (because it was completely renewed)
Now it would be probably on the same level as the old one
but added new features.
I am hesitant to learn the new version, it needs time...
and until now I like the old version, because I now how to use it...

Gottfried
