I seem to have gotten it working.  I have no idea how, as I never ran
the install script or the server script.  Just, magically, one day,
find_with_ferret started working in the console whereas it was
returning errors the previous day.  I think perhaps it required a
reboot of some kind on the Heroku back-end or a reboot on my server
that might have triggered by a change in the routing file or something
like that.

So, I would suggest trying to modify your routes after you've loaded
the gem/plugin and updated your models.  Then test with the console.
I'll try to help if you have specific questions, but I don't have a
solid grasp on what made this start trucking, sorry.
