I just want to see what the long term purpose of Heroku will be. I
just signed up to start playing with it, and so far it seems to be a
very good development environment. What I'm more curious about is
once I develop my app, where do I go from there? Will Heroku be
available as a permanent environment for some sort of fee? Will I be
able to duplicate the Heroku environment in my own cloud instance?

Also, on a semi-related (but more off-topic) note, what does a simple
Rails instance for a small (1-3 person) development team cost to run
on Amazon's EC2 service? They have calculators on their site, but I
really have no idea how much computing time it would take so I'm
curious as to what some real-world numbers are. I'm also a little
unsure of how their billing works, for example they say $.10 per ECU.
Does one unit equal one real-time running hour of that instance, or if
the instance is sitting idle and only does some work a few minutes
here and there, would that one unit cover multiple hours of real-time
operation?

Thanks for the clarification and keep up the great work!

Jeremy
