Really it's not that big of a deal. Also, Heroku _is_ beta, so I would
expect some occasional problems... my experience is that the guys
resolve them pretty quickly when there is a problem.

For a bit of history, the Gem installation mechanism that is on the
site worked great prior to Rails 2. When Rails 2 support was added to
heroku, it broke the gem installer, and the workaround I suggested was
how I got it to work.

I have not played with the installer since, so maybe there is another
way to deal with it. I am simply suggesting a workaround that would
allow you to continue developing your application while they work the
kinks out.
