The point of stressed skin is not that you walk around on it with yer boots
on - it's that for wind and snow loads, the stresses are evenly distributed.

If you want to do a frame, and get the full benefit of the hexayurt
geometry, why not do it this way?

http://www.appropedia.org/Hexayurt_frame

Keeps the ultra-low waste property, and can be adapted to have panel
materials by tweaking the geometry slightly (this one is optimized for
fabrics.) Make the 12 "dominant" triangles 8' x 8' isosceles, tweak the ones
which are equilateral in this version to whatever gives an appropriate
geometry.

More than one way to do it,

Vinay
