I agree with Julie, assuming you don't fold the tarp well, and tuck in any loose flaps, and don't tighten it down very well (and don't have a car that seals out road noise very well either).
However, *IF* you can do all those things properly, then it won't be a big deal. However, it is highly likely at least one flap somewhere will come out and start flapping at some point along the trip (I had a quiet enough car where I didn't notice the one flap that came loose on me).
