If you are going to go with non-traditional building materials, why go
heavier than wood (when wood will stand up better, and is probably
easier than tubular steel) when there is carbon fiber, often known as
"kite rod" or "golf tube".

If you have more interest in this, I camp in ger (ger means house, yurt
means village) at many SCA events, including Pennsic (up to 6 16' in
diameter, 6' tall at the walls, interconnected ones there, depending on
the year) and have a 12' one that I take to overnight events at my
house, if you are anywhere near Massachusetts, and want to come by and
poke.

Yes, my ger are over-built, I like to be able to hang hammock chairs
from the center ring ...
