Interesting.  Yep, if it's sticking well to reflectix, it's got a good 
adhesive.  

Gluing the strips in might work, but the adhesive would have be optically 
clear, and the joints would have to be absolutely clean. Otherwise foam 
bits and bobs would get in the way.
