hello.  i'm hoping someone on this list can help a guy out who doesn't
understand electronics/solar very well.   but is trying....

i'm trying to fix something that didn't work well the first time i tried
it--solar powered swamp cooler for the desert/burning man.  there were two
problems--the cool airflow wasn't that great (got into the yurt, but didn't go
very far at all) and it didn't last for as long as i wanted.

i'm basically just powering one computer fan
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001JKNMBE/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).

i am using a 10w solar panel and a battery that is 7 amp hours.  the solar goes
through a controller to the battery to the fan in the swamp cooler.  i'm
thinking there could be 3 reasons for the fail:

        1. solar panel isn't powerful enough: Instapark® NEW All Black 10W
Mono-crystalline Solar Panel with 12V Solar Charge Controller
        2. battery isn't powerful enough.

        3. sun wasn't powerful last year because of massive forest fire that
grayed the skies and limited the sun's power.

if you have any insights, i'd love to hear them.  sometimes i think i should
use to fans to power the swamp cooler, but i've seen many designs with one and
people on the interweb claim they've had success with it.  also, i know there
are some formulas that people use to gauge what they need; having trouble
grasping the interplay between the different parts of the system.

i know very little about this crap.  would like the battery to keep the fan
charged for 8 hours, if possible (starts at sunrise and keeps going through the
worst heat of the day).  also, we will be adding another fan (household) this
year, so the system will need to work even harder.

thank you in advance.  my wife has threatened to bring an air conditioner +
generator next year, if this 2.0 version doesn't boast improved results. :-(
