Venting is a good thing - especially in something as tight as a hexayurt can be.
Dust, etc. is something you'd like to keep out if possible. Here's something I'm going to try: Take a 6-8" square piece of semi-flexible plastic (slice something out of a large "milky-white" plastic jug or... ). Scavenge a foot or more of springy steel. I was wondering about getting into Home Depot's un-crating area in back for some steel pallet strapping when I looked across my desk and saw a hanging folder - with springy steel hangy bits. I shaped my springy bit with pliers because I had some handy. Pallet strapping might get a bit hard some some people without pliers. Cutting could be an issue (pliers work by bending back & forth at a sharp bend, but metal snips are best... hacksaws are possible...). I put a sharp, well-defined 90 degree bend in the steel about 1.5" from the end, poked the plastic about 1.5" from the middle of the edge I wanted to be the one low on the roof and stuck the steel through leaving the 1.5" section to define "outside" The width of the steel is parallel to the bottom edge. There's an "open" detent that matches the foam panel thickness and holds it open. There's a "closed" one too - and if you want more closing force, hang a boot (or...?...) on the steel. When you cut the hole, try not to cut and re-cut the same line - which will leave you with weird little slices and make it harder to un-do the hole by popping in the piece and taping over it. Use foil tape on the edges of the hole for a professional look ;-) If you want to go a little crazy with it, get some thin self-stick foam window-sealer tape and put it on the underside of the plastic so it rests against the top of the R-Max around the hole. No springy steel? No Problem. It's just there to prop the plastic cover open. Stick something else in there. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "hexayurt" group.
