I've noticed a good bit of "black smudge" on my yurt over the years. I"m pretty
sure this isn't mold. When I first got my panels, they were pretty grimy with
what I suspect was diesel dust from transport. I got most of it off, but it was
tough. I suspect the black stuff folks are seeing on their yurts is just dirt.
It's much more apparent that it's there 'cause the panels are so reflective. I
still see it year after year, and I think dirt that gets ground into the panels
from rubbing against each other on the ride home is the culprit.

Yesterday I suggested using a small trailer for yurt transport. The cheap ones
are ok, but the wheel bearings are not very good. I bought bigger wheels with
better bearings. e-traiers is a good spot to shop for such stuff. If you put on
bigger wheels, the bearings turn less often at 65 mph, and so last longer. You
also have to be conservative when driving with a trailer hanging off the back
of your car. But for safe transport and flexibility, it's tough to beat a 4 x 8
trailer with plywood sides. One more note, if you buy one be sure to attach the
plywood to the OUTSIDE of the 2x4s that attach to the trailer. That way you end
up with a load box that is 4 x8, rather than 3' 10" x 7' 10". Ask me how I know
:-)
