Greetings and welcome, Scott!

How well I remember that leap of faith you describe. For me it was in 1985, and
I've never regretted it -- well, *almost* never!

Hi if any UK HG players are interested we have a  fledgling HG forum at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/HurdyGurdyForum
It very good natured and based on the simple premise that HG players should be friends and get together.

Im new to hurdygurdy.com so I better say hello. My name is Scott, I have been playing just over a year. I have a British luteback in D. I first saw a HG at a friends wedding in Cornwall in 2001 and was hooked instantly. It took me a while to get the cash together to buy one, and it was a leap of faith to purchase an expensive instrument I couldnt play.
I have had such fun in the world since, with generous help, encouragement and tuition from folk musicians. Im still just a beginner, but I practice alot and sometimes it sounds good! I started to bump into HG players on my travels, and on Myspace.com too. It seemed such an obvious idea to get HG people together in one place, so the UK forum was born a couple of months ago. We are planning a mini festival weekend which will take place in Lancaster next year. Anyone from anywhere who can make it will find themselves warmly welcomed and looked after like family.

Very best wishes and greetings from sunny Britain

Scott

It was recently suggested that players in Europe are not interested in US events and vice-versa. I believe this to be incorect as I often meet US and Canadian players at French festivals. I would love to sample the US scene, unfortunatly any British musician wanting to work in the USA, or merely get through immigration with a musical instrument is given a hard time. This is why many Irish folk bands with English members have to use a dep on US tours; apparently according to the current US administration's Stalinist immigration policy English musicians are potential terrorists while Irish ones are not.
Anyway, keep the information coming because when things get better I for one would love to get over.
