Hi, Yes, the writer WAS flying from the UK to Hungary. Just the mere fact that 20 minutes before the check-in opened the queues were longer than the whole Luton check-in hall across made me not to try and argue with them a lot. I did try to explain the checking in lady the situation, she was very helpful and directed me to the oversized luggage department where my HG was checked in separately. I was lucky to see with my own eyes that the box was put on MY plane (my husband recommended a bright red coloured case - Great!), so it was OK.
On the Budapest side I tried to request from the plane crew if I could take out the HG and carry it through in my hand, this wasn't allowed. >From then on the HG was treated as a normal luggage, I watched it being taken off and put - well shoved - on the line, despite the fact that I was shouting to the guy to be careful at doing that. (It was the last piece of all, and the layout of the airport allowed me to peep through those rubber ribbons where the luggage comes inside the building.) On arrival I checked through the instrument, it was fine and since than my maker has seen it, there was no problem. He even praised my hard case - which actually costed me slightly more than 100 GBP (gee, there is no pound sign on a Hungarian keyboard!). A very good maker in Hull... Having said that in a normal situation I'd certainly try or even pay extra - which as it turned out IS an option with WIZZAIR - to take my HG on board. It'd be a less worried journey. Now I try to enjoy my hols and from what I heard from my maker and teacher, I am looking forward to a very fruitful 5 days at the HG camp!
