This thread of "regional" accents is very interesting. My friend who plays guitar with me tries to make the French tunes sound more Scottish as to him "they sound wrong" and as he does this it completely changes the feel of the tune. I now find it much simpler to slot into a session in Central France than here at home even if I play my concertina. We do have sessions here in Scotland and if you are not local you are not really welcome. Irish sessions all over Europe tend to be played at a hundred miles an hour as if its a competition. HG's not welcome at either. The wonderful thing about HG players is how defensive they are of each other, whether they are someone like Melissa at one end of the spectrum to Micheal at the other, we all love the instrument. One instrument, a huge rainbow of colourful sounds. JON
