Greetings to HG listies -- I am back from the Unto Ashes / QNTAL tour which
extended through Europe -- 17 dates in many wonderful cities and venues
(Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, The Netherlands).
The Orca HG did well following a minor bit of adjustment / maintenance in
Santa's workshop immediately prior to departure. Thanks to Cali and Alden
for their efforts on my behalf during this critical time; there was very
little time and they expedited the shipment at considerable expense.
It seems that the Orca does very well with the raw cotton / raw silk BLEND
that Cali & Alden have developed for this instrument. Use of anything else
is NOT recommended.
The Orca was fairly stable going from backstage to onstage (under the hot
lights) but required constant vigilance for tuning, as expected since the
string are gut (organic tissue). The tuning pegs were excellent.
I have ZERO complaints about this instrument for touring.
As for TRAVEL from New York --> Munich --> New York, we flew with Lufthansa
and paid for an extra seat, in which we put the Orca (soft case) and a
violin (hard case) together. Lufthansa was extremely agreeable in every way
about this. I am convinced that the age-old axiom "DO NOT LET THE HG OUT OF
YOUR CONTROL" must remain paramount for all travellers.
With best wishes to all, and congratulations to Melissa for her Village
Voice acknowledgment!
:D
Sincerely,
M. Laird
