Well tob e quite frank I have...
Because I made the first HG's almost without any drawings, and because I
wasn't aware of soundholes under the keybox, I made some without ...
Later on I changed this and then the sound becomes more open and direct.
Before the sound has the same volume but is more mellow more mixed and
less direct.
However the effect must not be overestimated it is somehow comparable
with sympathetic strings its very well possible to omit them but they
give some extra...
For an instrument to be played outside or in consort I would recommend
to try without...

Hi, from a stormy Turku,
Has any one thought or wondered what the effects to sound,tone or 
volume,openings or sound holes, that are in the tops under/inside the 
key boxes on some Hurdy Gurdies have?
