Yes, the other alternative is to take the subway to North station (I think)
and then the train to Lowell where you can be picked up - it will work out
either way - Jocelyn

  Hi, Graham (and other out-of-towners)...

I live just outside of Boston and will be driving up to Chelmsford daily for
the weekend. (Big station wagon, could fit three passengers pretty
comfortably, depending on how much room those (roly poly??) hurdy gurdies take
up. I would be more than happy to meet you at the airport (possibly via
subway, parking at the airport even for a short time is expensive!) and then
driving up to Chelmsford. I'm sure there are others of us in the greater
Boston area will also be able to provide some transport. Boston is certainly
the biggest area airport, although there are smaller ones in NH (Manchester,
maybe??) that are closer.

I had hoped to be able to provide free accommodations for folks, but my
elderly father in law will be with us during that time period, so that's not
possible....

  Nan

The date of the New England Hurdy Gurdy gathering will be July 20th-22nd.
Friday evening, all day Saturday and 1/2 day Sunday
Place: 24 Chamberlain rd, Chelmsford MA 01824
A lovely brick 1800 colonial that has air conditoning
Instructor: RT Taylor with Mathew Szostak assisting
RT will forward CD's and sheet music ahead of time to participants. The
idea will be to learn the songs ahead of time, and learn how to embellish,
crank and generally polish it during the weekend. (RT will undoubtedly have
more to say here later).
Accommodations: Local hotels (more info to follow). There may be some
homestays available with local Bostonians - I'll forward this info along as it
becomes available.
Local hotel prices are about $100 a night - some considerably more.
Price: $125 (not including accommodations) This includes instruction for
the weekend and Breakfast, lunch, dinner on Saturday and Breakfast and lunch on
Saturday. This is my break even estimate. It's basically a non-profit event.

    What I need to know:
    Are you coming?
What instrument do you play? D/G or C/G
What is your level of play?
If you live locally, can you offer a room in your house for other
participants?

    FAQ
Do I have to be a good player to attend?
Answer: No, this is designed to accommodate all levels of play. RT is a
very versatile instructor and should be able to help you regardless of where
you are in your HG journey

    What if I don't have a Hurdy-Gurdy?
Welll, a couple of people have offered to lend out their extra
hurdy-gurdies, so you might be able to borrow one, if you are waiting to
recieve yours from a maker, or want to try it out. If people offer to lend out
an HG, we'll try to match them up with interested players. Needless to say,
you will get the most out of this, if you have your own gurdy.
However, regardless, you must have an instrument in hand to attend
-borrowed or owned.

    What about camping?
I have 2 acres in the backyard - it's wooded and idyllic looking. It's
also buggy and noisy - being 1/4 mile from 495 - a very busy highway. (Think
Pennsic for those of you who have camped there). I have limited bathroom access
since I will be putting up two people myself. If you want to camp, camp
Saturday night only and bring earplugs, a tent and stay in a hotel Friday
night. Alternatively, you could set up an air mattress in the loft of my
garage on Saturday night. It's unfinished space and you will be sharing it
with all the junk we couldn't fit in our house - might be really hot up there
if it's a hot weekend, but better if it rains.

That's it - participants, please email me as soon as possible - details
about payment coming soon!
