Hi Jocelyn,

You don't say where you are, but if there is a Radio Shack in your neck of the woods see if if they have a lavaliere ( a small clip on mic, some times called a tie tack mic, like TV presenters use ). Their stock may vary (mono or stereo), but you should find the price attractive (i.e, cheap). I have an inexpensive stereo Radio Shack lavaliere which I have found very useful for field recordings with a mini disc recorder. I know of professional guitarists and bagpipers who have used similar mikes successfully in or on their instruments for performance and recording. I do not have any experience with recording a Gurdy, however. You could try clipping it on the edge of a sound hole or feeding the mike down into the instrument. Experiment. In any event, you will have to do a few takes to set levels and see what works for you.

Best of luck with your recording, Craig

Hello everyone,
I know we've had this discussion before - but perhaps those people who have done some recording can recommend a mike for a gurdy for recording purposes- nothing too expensive please. I have a deep, loud vielle - actually more like a tekkero in sound. Should I get a dynamic mike or a condensor mike? I have maximum $150 to spend on this mike. I want to make clean, listenable recording.

Thank you,
Jocelyn
