Hi,
the band hurdy-gurdy is formed by member of the two hot scandinavian Folkbands, Hedningarna und Garmarna. Their names are Hållbus Totte Mattson and Stefan Brisland-Ferner. I once wrote a review of the CD for Germanys folk music magazine Folker!. If you search their names in the net youll find quite some information, e.g. http://nordicroots.org/nrf2002/hurdy.html http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile <http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=5 7243234> &friendid=57243234 I agree, their music is not everybodys cup of tea, but if youre open minded the music may blow you away. As is quite common in contemporary Swedish folk music, there is a heavy fusion of traditional materials with something of an industrial and metal sensibility. If you like "pure" HG music this album may not be for you. They do a number of interesting things to get their sound. In some cases they do things like run the strings really slack to get a noisy, low sound, and other things are run through heavy signal processing to get an amazing variety of sounds out of the instrument. You can get the album Prototyp off of iTunes (at least in the U.S.) and I think it's well worth the price. -Arle On Nov 2, 2007, at 9:17 PM, Augusto de Ornellas Abreu wrote: Have you heard this lovely presentation of the HG in America's National Public Radio? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5242278 I'd love to hear more from this Swedish duo... Does anyone have more information on them? Augusto
