We had our annual Winter Solstice party this weekend and my family was treated to (subjected to?) songs and carols on the Hurdy Gurdy for the first time. The kids went nuts - what a treat! Dear Ian-- I envy you a bit. The adults in my family have politely asked me not to bring my h-g along ever, even though the kids like it. Never mind that I have been playing it in all weathers for six weekends at the Louisiana Renfest, and that a crowd will gather there just to watch me tune... Not that I'm bitter. But all the same, I got to play a selection of carols at two Christmas programs in one of my schools, and the kids went wild both times, stomping and cheering and clapping. So I have carried that around to warm me ever since, and I'll still be smiling at the family table on Christmas, even though I'm not playing for them. The music is still playing in my head.
