The problem with both of those is that they lack the self-lubricating
properties of lignum vitae. Sure, you could oil them, but then you
have to design the instrument to provide access to the bearings.
Lignum vitae, on the other hand, should never need attention. Like
cocobolo (which is used to make bandsaw blade guides), it will
continue to release oil for longer than the life expectancy of your
instrument.
