There are usually some hurdy-gurdies in evidence at the dance festivals at Kinnersley Castle, see http://www.emade.org.uk/spring.php, Metheglin (Clare Hines HG) are playing but there is no specific 'gurdy tuition planned this time. For info on the french dance scene in the UK see http://www.frenchdanceleeds.co.uk/events/frenchdiaryuk.php, perhaps you could ask the organisers of the regular Exeter or Brighton events? They should be within reach of Dorset and they might help you get in touch with local HG players.
