I use an adjustable bridge on my alto. Wolfgang Weichselbaumer is
building them into most of his instrument since half a year or so, I
guess there might be 15-20 "out there".
I'm completely happy with it. I've never put or removed paper
underneath the strings since I have it. It works easily so that I can
change the pressure of the string even in the middle of a piece
within a few seconds break, if I find I'd need more or less pressure.
I did not notice too much of a change in sound, but more likely the
instrument sounds better, since the bridge is always in a relaxed
position and not bended too much.
The only drawback I found so far is that, when you move the bridge up
or down just on one side, the distance of the tangents to the strings
change a bit, but that is in my opinion much less disturbing than
the paperwork I did before.
