At college I did a course on Orchestral instrument repairing , 3 years. In the final year I specialised in strings. We had to make bridges out of different materials and also adjustable ones. Most adjustable bridges were between 25 percent and 50 percent less efficient in transmitting vibrations than fixed ones. They were also more likely to break through weakness points. JON
