I use an old leather guitar strap with a leather boot lace added to create
extra length; this goes over the shoulder in addition to the waist strap. If
you go to www.drohne.co.uk and study the blue photo you can see how I thread it
so that the gurdy can sit flat against the chest. If the straps are tight it is
not only possible to stand whilst playing but also to dance whilst playing
[which I will be doing at a gig in Brighton this weekend].
Good luck...It's easy when you get used to it; however, be warned; heavy
trompetting can put a strain on the shoulders.

Does anyone have a recomendation for a strap or harness so I can play a
gurdy standing?
I have a few gigs that this feature would be most helpful.
Please advise

Does this mean that only one
person (using French costume) in the entire continent is allowed to use a
hurdy gurdy in reenactments?
