Hello,

I think the Canto is standard 34,5 cm so every standard d'' string should work. On traditional instruments this often is a 0.68mmm to 0.72mm plain gut string. As long as I used to have a 34.5 d'' I always prefered the Pirastro Eudoxa Violin e'' (its e'' at 32.5, which makes it quite exactly a d'' on 34.5).
A 0.65 to 0.70 Nylgut might also be a good and rather durable choisse.

I have a 3 chanterelle Weischelbaumer Canto that i currently have set up with unison D strings and a low G. I would like to experiment with more of a traditional french sound and replace one of the D strings with a high d. I am currently using Viola strings for the chanters. Would a Violin e work as the octave d? I realize serious shimming at both ends will likely be needed, but i would like to give it a try. Its not going to be permanent as I have a 'quiet D' and a 'loud D" the quiet string works well behind singers.

thanks

derek
