Well,
If the consensus is to keep these things on this list, I am certainly
not opposed. The only reason for me to suggest another forum was
because I'd seen enough "let's take this off list" discussions that
interested me. If there is consensus to keep this here and people will
continue to discuss these matters on forum, I will be happy to take
down the group I set up. It actually makes it easier for me since I'd
not have to bother with the Google group I set up and would only have
to monitor this list.

Maybe just adding "building" to the subject line would be enough or
"tech" for those not interested to push the delete button?
I'd really miss these technical discussions.
Sympathetic strings - how would I know about them and if I wanted
them if it wasn't discussed.
I'd have to join the builder's list even though I could never
contribute.
It could also start something.
A forum for tunes, one for rosin, one for cottoning, one for
meetings - the list is endless.
Where would one place rosin and cotton?
Ah, a HG maintenance forum maybe?
Please let's keep it all in one place.

Would it make sense to set up a Google or Yahoo Group just for
makers and those interested in building hurdy-gurdies? While I don't
want to fracture the group on this list, I wonder if a dedicaed
group might not attract those who don't want to participate on a
general HG list. It would also allow those with an interest in
detailed building questions to discuss as much as they want without
overwhelming those who have an interest in playing only. My other
thought is that often enough I've seen people say that they'd take
such a discussion off list (like Marc proposes here), in which case
the result of that discussion is lost to anyone else who might be
interested, while a Google group would allow that to be recorded.
If there is enough interest in a builders' group, I'd be willing to
set it up.
Best,
Arle

I'dd like to discuss these and others items like these but i think
we can better do this not on the site...

Subject: [HG] sympathetic strings
hi again...
the sound board question didnt seem to be very popular. so lets try
this.
regarding sympathetic strings any special rules such as length
spacing height from the sound board... do they have to cover the
sound board all the way ... ( i would imagine they would ) how do
these issues affect tone and volume.
who has them and how do you like them they seem to add just a wee
bit of echo i have only heard a sample on the web but not in a tune
format just in a single C note format....
any help?
peace
