Dear HG list members,

I have created a list for us on Google Groups.

It was my intent to simply transfer the whole list over invisibly, but of
course it's not quite that easy. It turns out that if I enter all 335 of your
addresses, Google thinks that I'm a spammer and puts a hold on the list until
a real person determines that I'm a real person. This works in theory, but in
practice it sounds as if Google never gets around to removing the hold.
Thanks to Arle for bringing this to my attention before I got lost in
Bureaucracy-land.

So here's what to do to subscribe to the new list:

Use your favorite web browser to go to this URL:
http://groups.google.com/group/hurdygurdy/

At the right side you will see a link to "Join this group". Click on this link.

If you don't already have a Google Groups account, it will take you to where
you create one. This is very easy: enter your email address and a password,
and whatever nickname you want to be known by.

You'll now get an email which contains a link to confirm that you want to
create the Google Groups account. Click on this link.

You will now be back in Google Groups, where you can specify how you want to
receive the postings from the group.

All email postings to the new group have [HG-new] at the beginning of the
subject line. We'll let discussions here wind down. Please start any new
discussions on the new list. When you subscribe to the new list, you'll be
able to see the archives, so you won't have missed anything.

A cool feature of the Google Groups format is the ability to post pictures.
We hadn't been able to do that before, so I'm looking forward to seeing some
instruments (and, oh yes, people too).

If you need help subscribing yourself, please contact me at this address,
