Why not make 3 directories in the distribution?
Also, the hibernate3 dist. is 17MB! I suggest splitting it up in 3 parts: hibernate-src (zipped around 1.5mb) hibernate-docs (zipped around 6.5mb) hibernate-bin (zipped around 10mb)
I didn't move the build jars from the bin-dist to the src-dist, so I guess it can be smaller..
Also, you could put all optional stuff in a seperate zip..

Hi, Sorry for intruding in your discussion.
I personally don't mind if there are several jars, But the documentation about which ones that are required and which jars that are optional could be better. _README.txt is a pain to read. A better organization could be as follows below. Where a jar needed by several optional libs should be repeated. Then it easy to figure out whats needed an whats not.
BuildTime --------- * junit-3.8.1.jar (3.8.1) - JUnit test framework ...
Runtime Required ---------------- * commons-logging-1.0.4.jar (1.0.4) - Commons Logging * cglib-2.1.jar (2.1.0) - CGLIB bytecode generator ...
Optional -------- * jboss-cache.jar (1.2.2 alpha) - TreeCache clustered cache + concurrent-1.3.2.jar (1.3.2)- unknown name

Why is cglib now three JAR files? Can we repackage this? Questions about "ClassNotFoundError" etc. appear much more often nowwith H3, we

The reason for the three files were something to do with how the latest cglib release were done as far as I remember.
I had a question earlier about removing commonscollections, but noone answered so I couldn't just remove it.
