This is a very valuable article that most Muslims in
the Philippines
know (whether those from Muslim families of Mindanao
or elsewhere
as ex-Christians who embraced Islam), which is
confirmed even
by Christian historians.
Coming from a Christian poster, this should remind
Filipino Christians
why they ought to embrace Islam altogether:
1.       As explained in this artile;
2. As taught in Islam that all mankind are born
Muslims (with
fitrah or natural inclination to worship One True God)
but it
is their parents who make them Jews, Christians or
followers
of other religions;
3. As borne by the fact that the first human,
Adam, was created
by Allah as Muslim, as well as all the other prophets,
and so all
their descendants ought to have the same God to
worship and
obey and the same religion to be their guidance.

What is not mentioned here is the fact that the rest
of the
Philippines before the colonization by Spain also had
Islam
as the religion, except for pagans who remain so to
this
generation. The City of Manila had Muslim rulers
related
to the sultans in Mindanao, Brunei and the present
Malaysia
and Indonesia, of whom Rajah Sulayman (Soliman) was
a descendant and was the ruler of the City when the
Spamiards
occupied it in 1565 and made it capital city on June
24, 1571
(now proudly celebrated as Manila Day every year).

Islam in Philippines: 141 years older than
Christianity...

Many of us Filipinos (and other nationals) are not
aware that Islam
is 141 years older than Christianity in the
Philippines.

The Christian religion came to our land when, on March
16, 1521,
Ferdinand Magellan landed on Homonhon Island of Samar
on an
expedition sent by King Philip of Spain. The primary
objective of the
expedition was to conquer some spicy islands and to
spread
Christianity. The inhabitants of Homonhon Island, who
were pagans,
were the first to be converted.

The expedition took Magellan and his forces to Panay
and Cebu also.
While the people of Panay accepted the new religion,
Lapu-Lapu in
Cebu opposed him. A war ensued, and Magellan was
killed. Following
his death, King Philip sent more expeditions, with
soldiers and
preachers, to spread Christianity. As a result, the
Philippines
became the first Christian country in Asia.

In contrast to the general welcome Christianity
received in the
archipelago, it found resistance in Mindanao where the
inhabitants
were already Muslims. Makdum, an Arabian missionary
and scholar who
arrived in Tubig Indangan, on Nov. 8, 1380, introduced
Islam in the
Philippines. He introduced Islam with his persuasive
powers, not with
swords as Magellan did.

The point I wanted to make is that Islam is not an
interloper that
came to a Christian country. It has been in the
Philippines for 624
years, (last Nov 8, 04) compared to the 483 years
(coming Mar 16, 04)
that Christianity has been there.

Sincerely yours,
