muslim women do not carry their husbands names;they keep their maiden names. the western concept of marital names (mrs.) came
from the old western social order where women were not allowed to have any
control over any material property. i think it was late 19th century or early
20th that women were granted that right in parts of europe.. traditional laws
allowed husbands to take over from fathers the legal custodian of their wives
dowries; and inheritance.. that is where the marital last name came from.
Hence, a maiden name is more respectful;as
it acknowledges a better status for women.
